o barón Delaware
(9 jul. 1577–7 jun. 1618, en alta mar frente a la costa de Virginia o de Nueva Inglaterra).
Fundador inglés de Virginia. Luego de servir bajo las órdenes del conde de Essex en los Países Bajos y en Irlanda, ingresó a la Virginia Company y en 1610 fue nombrado gobernador de la colonia. Junto con 150 colonos, llegó a Jamestown cuando otro grupo la abandonaba. Estableció dos fuertes en la desembocadura del río James y reconstruyó Jamestown. La bahía de Delaware, el río Delaware y el estado de Delaware llevan su nombre.
